Sustainable development and the circular economy are key themes for the future.

On April 22, 2021, President Tsai Ing-wen announced Taiwan's CO2 neutrality target by 2050, joining more than 130 governments around the world that have released similar targets.

Global attention to environmental issues, particularly climate change and plastic pollution, has increased dramatically in recent years, which makes saving resources and circular economy to key themes for the future. Well-known German companies have unveiled similar targets, like BASF with climate neutrality by 2050 and its double of the turnover with circular products by 2030 and Convestro with the reduction of its emissions by 50% until 2025. On top of that, wpd plans another offshore wind farm at Taoyuan, advancing the energy transition.

Sustainability in the City of Taoyuan

Taoyuan City Government has demonstrated strong determination in climate change mitigation and circular economy. Taoyuan City has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 13% in the past seven years. In the meantime, Taoyuan City announced to achieve net zero by 2050, which is in line with the suggestion by IPCC. Taoyuan City has been promoting diverse and clean fuels as alternatives to coal. As of today, Taoyuan City has helped to switch to clean fuels for 876 industrial boilers out of total 1,078 boilers in the city.

The Sustainable Industrial Cooperation Seminar is an excellent platform for connecting businesses with the local authorities and establishing contacts, share ideas and developments and create sustainable solutions.
