The International Labour Organization calls applications for Communications Internship in Bangkok, Thailand. The internship will increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programs, and strategies. In addition to that, the intern will gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.

Responsibilities 

The intern will do the following duties

  • Assisting in drafting a press release and news articles, including developing original content under direction and editing from multiple contributors;
  • Supporting in the development and design of digital, web content, and print materials as well as supporting in social media coverage of the Safe and Fair events and activities.
  • Assisting in designing, creating, writing text and editing short videos for audience development purposes to bridge the key messages of the Safe and Fair Programme and outreach activities.
  • Assisting in taking photos and videos, guided by guidelines on UN system photos use.
  • Supporting in extracting analysis from research and preparing factsheets. Similarly, supporting training on communications to staff and partners.
  • Preparing draft presentations and briefs as assigned.
  • Attending weekly meetings to report and provide inputs for overall communications and visibility efforts of the programme’s activities.
  • Be conscious of brand standards and guidelines and incorporate them into the activities assigned on communications and visibility of the Safe and Fair Programme.
  • Contributing ideas to develop communications and visibility of the Safe and Fair Programme.
  • Furthermore, constantly and continuously keep oneself up to date within the Communications for Development (C4D) industry through colleagues, media, workshops, meetings and self-access learning resources.

Requirements 

Candidates must have the following requirements to be eligible for this internship at the international labour organization

  • Candidates must be in the final year of a postgraduate degree in a relevant technical field including mass communications, media relations, journalism, international relations, gender studies, international development or other relevant disciplines.
  • Experience of working in communications, labour migration, trafficking, violence against women or other related field is an asset.
  • Similarly, knowledge and experience of working with the ILO or UN Women constituents and in the ASEAN region would be plus.

Competencies 

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills as well as intermediate Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) skills.
  • Strong grasp of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and related applications) management and campaign development.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, as well as organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with video editing would be a plus.
  • Familiarity and interest in human rights and/or gender equality frameworks.
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team to meet programme needs.
  • Availability to start working in February/March 2020 for a period of three to six months.

Stipend/Compensation 

The intern will receive a stipend of USD 550 per month from the ILO unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation).

It was the first specialised agency of the UN. Moreover, the ILO has 187 member states; 186 of the 193 UN member states plus the Cook Islands are members of the ILO. Furthermore, the tripartite structure is unique to the ILO where representatives from the government, employers and employees openly debate and create labour standards.
