President Donald Trump’s speech at the 2020 Republican National Convention drew fewer television viewers than Joe Biden’s speech during the Democratic National Convention last week, according to Nielsen.

KEY FACTS

An estimated 23.8 million TV viewers watched the final night of the RNC on Thursday, while an estimated 24.6 million tuned into the last night of the DNC the week before.

The DNC earned higher ratings than the RNC on three of the four convention nights, with only the RNC’s second night, which featured First Lady Melania Trump as a speaker, beating out the DNC.

Trump is paying close attention to this year’s convention ratings and insisted his RNC speech would beat the DNC’s “pathetic” numbers, the Daily Beast reported, citing a senior administration official.

Still, Trump tweeted, “Great Ratings & Reviews Last Night. Thank you!” on Friday morning.

Surprising fact

Trump’s 70 minute speech was the second-longest in modern convention history, only behind his 75 minute speech at the 2016 RNC.
